Sasol contributes $100,000 to coronavirus relief efforts

Company supports front-line workers through Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana fund

Lake Charles, La. – Sasol today pledged $100,000 to coronavirus relief efforts in communities where it operates in the United States, with an emphasis on supporting front-line emergency responders, health care professionals, educators and food service providers. Seventy thousand dollars are earmarked for Southwest Louisiana, where Sasol employs more than 1,200 people.

“Sasol values the important roles our community front-liners play every day but especially as we pull together to respond to COVID-19,” said Mike Thomas, Sasol’s senior vice president of North American Operations. “We extend our gratitude to these health care workers, educators, emergency responders and food service providers for their service.”

Sasol’s contributions, provided through its fund at the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana, will provide funds for personal protective equipment, sanitation supplies and meals to emergency responders and health care workers. Where possible, meals will be provided by City of Westlake restaurants, the community closest to Sasol’s Louisiana facilities. The company also directed resources to City of Westlake public schools to help educators transition to online learning and to the McNeese State University Small Business Development Center for virtual small business support courses.

“Sasol has a track record of building meaningful partnerships with community organizations to deliver long-term, sustainable value to Southwest Louisiana,” Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana’s President & CEO Sara Judson said. “The company’s focused commitment to relief efforts will directly benefit some of the community sectors most affected by this pandemic.”

In addition to Sasol’s relief effort contribution, the company is contributing through its operations in Southwest Louisiana by making products essential to the COVID-19 response.

Sasol’s Southwest Louisiana operations produce ingredients used to make personal hygiene products and disinfectants, as well as specialty plastic packaging that helps prevent contamination of food, medicine, personal care and medical products.
