Early in her career as a journalist and press secretary, Kim Hunter Reed was asked the same recurring question by her grandmother.
“She’d say, ‘When are you going to join the family business?’”
The family business was education. Coming from a long line of college graduates and educators, Reed was expected to reach the highest level of education possible, and to improve the system for others along the way.
“I know what it means to have doors open to you because of education,” Reed says, “and, ultimately, I saw it as a place where I could make an impact.”
Beginning her career as a broadcast journalist in her hometown of Lake Charles, Reed later served as press secretary to Gov. Edwin Edwards in his final term, and then as a policy and communications staffer for Gov. Kathleen Blanco. Continue reading here.
