Washington DC Briefing 2018: Wrap Up

C100 Annual Washington D.C. Briefing

January 24-25, 2018

Jan. 24th Russell Senate Building

The 2018 Washington Briefing kicked off with our annual Congressional luncheon hosted by Jones Walker, LLP. Our 2018 program was in the prestigious Kennedy Caucus Room and had over 121 attendees including C100 members and guests.

The luncheon was followed by a presentation by the recently named FERC Chairman, Neil Chatterjee, who discussed the LNG phenomena and the potential for US Energy Exports.

Our evening began with the annual reception hosted by Adams & Reese law firm that included many congressional staff members and a surprise visit by Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker.

In what is becoming the feature event of the Washington Briefing and the Washington Mardi Gras, registered C100 members were invited to an outstanding reception hosted by C100 member Cheniere Energy at the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum.

This was followed by another popular event sponsored by C100 member Tellurian at the W Hotel.

Jan. 25th Willard Hotel-Crystal Room

Day 2 of the event opened with breakfast where Governor John Bel Edwards, who for the 3rd consecutive year, presented to C100 members reinforcing the need to find solutions for the “Fiscal Cliff” and the need to implement some budget and tax reform measures during a proposed Special Session.

Following the Governor, Mark Peterson, EVP-Advocacy- with the AICPA discussed the Disaster Tax Bill and Federal Tax Changes wherein he reinforced that the tax changes are not tax reforms but a tax cut that would impact individuals differently depending on their respective situations and that a net positive would result from the corporate tax cut including higher wages, bonuses, and even utility rate reductions.

One of our most popular events features our former Louisiana Congressional

Delegation commenting on the issues of the day on the Hill. Former Senators John Breaux and Mary Landrieu were joined by former Congressman Bob Livingston, Chris John and Rodney Alexander.

After lunch C100 members were invited to participate in a US Chamber briefing on Trade, Energy and Regulatory issues of the day.
