2017 Year End Report

2017 Year End Report

A letter from our Chair

As you’ve read over the last several weeks, the Committee of 100’s standing as Louisiana’s business roundtable has positioned you and your fellow business leaders in an important role. Gov. Edwards has embraced the recommendations from the legislatively authorized HCR 11 Task Force, with intent to get some real action on tax reform and consequently fiscal and budget reform during an expected Special Session in early 2018. Recall that C100 investment with the Tax Foundation over two years ago resulted in task force concurrence of our efforts; earning us a reputation as a respected pro-business voice in this fiscal reform movement as we work with PAR, CABL, the Budget Project and others to promote tax and budget reform.

C100 is the state’s private sector business roundtable operating in a non-partisan manner to make Louisiana a better place to live and work on a host of other issues as well.

The competitive workforce needs of our great state also serve as an important concern as we devote much of our focus to early childhood education, K-12 education and higher education issues. And we also know all too well that our support of criminal justice reform impacts our state budget as well as our workforce.

As the Committee of 100 for Economic Development, Inc. we are also engaged in a cooperative endeavor agreement with the Louisiana Department of Economic Development (LED) to assist with its work to retain local business as the state also seeks to attract new industry. Our members are called upon to provide assistance in the form of business intelligence on industry sectors, to act as mentors for entrepreneurial startups and to assist in marketing our state to attract new investment on a global scale.

Your continued participation with C100 enables an important business voice to be heard - influencing public policy measures that impact business and industry while creating a better environment for existing business while recruiting new direct investment to our state. Thank you for your willingness to support C100 with your membership, your time and resources to offer assistance in a meaningful way to our state leadership.

We expect that 2018 will be a great year and with your continued participation we will make a difference. We look forward to seeing you in Washington D.C. for our annual congressional briefing on January 24-25. Happy New Year!

Sonia Perez
Chair- Committee of 100
