BioPaul Watts was named the General Manager of the Bell Helicopter Lafayette Aircraft Assembly Center in June 2014. When completed in 2015, the new Aircraft Assembly Center, which is situated on the Lafayette Regional Airport, will feature a modern and efficient aerospace assembly and completion center capable of producing over two-hundred aircraft a year. As general manager, Mr. Watts will be responsible for all day-to-day operations and strategic growth plans in Lafayette with an immediate focus on establishing a high performance team through talent acquisition and the creation of the facility’s business systems, processes and procedures.
Mr. Watts joined Bell Helicopter in 2008 and prior to his role as General Manager, was instrumental in directing both military and commercial cross-functional aircraft development teams. Mr. Watts also has experience leading Bell’s global business ventures organization as well as working with the executive leadership team to establish and execute Bell’s strategic priorities. These efforts have helped Bell Helicopter improve profitability, capture additional market share and position itself for future success. In 2014 Mr. Watts was recognized for his contributions through the Textron Chairman’s Award for Innovation.
Most recently, as the 505 Jet Ranger X Program Director, Mr. Watts led the development team in creating Bell’s new short light single helicopter that not only is competitively priced, but also offers class leading features and capabilities to its customers. The introduction of the 505 JRX in 2014 allowed Bell to successfully re-enter the short light single segment which was met by an outstanding response from the market.
With over 12 years of Aerospace experience, Mr. Watts also has acquired exceptional experience through his finance, program management and business optimization roles at Boeing Defense, Space & Security (formerly Boeing IDS) and Deloitte Consulting. Mr. Watts has a BA in finance from Utah State University and acquired a full-time MBA from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Watts is married to his wife Glory and together they have 5 children.
