BioHarry E. McInnis, Jr. was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1944, to Claire Burks McInnis and Harry E. McInnis. He graduated as valedictorian from Minden High School in 1962. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Louisiana State University in 1966 and then earned a Juris Doctor from LSU Law School in 1970. While at LSU he was president of Omicron Delta Kappa, managing editor of the Louisiana Law Review, Chairman of the LSU Honor Council, a member of Order of the Coif, and a member of Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.
After graduation from law school, McInnis began his business career at McInnis Brothers Construction, Inc., where he serves today as president of the company. The company is engaged in commercial and industrial construction in Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas. During his 45-year tenure at the family-owned business, he has been involved in estimating, contract negotiations, project management, and financial administration.
In his youth, McInnis was a member of Boy Scout Troop 34 in Minden and earned the Eagle Scout Award in 1958. He served for 36 years on the Executive Board for Norwela Council and was president of the council in 1982-1983. He was awarded Scouting’s Silver Beaver Award in 1988.
McInnis was a member of the Board of Directors for Minden Bank and Trust Company from 1978 to 2000, when the bank merged with Regions Bank. He served as Chairman of the Board from 1991 to 2000 and also chaired the executive committee and loan committee. McInnis served from 1976 to 1988 on the Executive Committee of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry and was Chairman of the Board in 1983.
McInnis twice served a term as president of the Associated General Contractors, Shreveport. He is a past president of the Committee of 100 of Shreveport-Bossier, LSU-S Foundation, Minden Chamber of Commerce, LSU Alumni Association, Minden Economic Development Corporation, Minden Jaycees, and Norwela Council of the Boy Scouts of America. McInnis served as Chairman of the Advisory Board for Northwest Louisiana Vocational Technical School from 1975 to 1994. He was also a member of the Louisiana Board of Commerce and Industry from 1982 to 1984.
McInnis recently served five years as Chairman of the Board of the LSU Health Sciences Foundation and is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of Centenary College and the Louisiana Committee of 100.
McInnis is a member of First United Methodist Church of Shreveport, where he has served as a member of the Board of Trustees, the Building Committee, the Finance Committee, and the Church Council.
He was recognized as Minden’s Outstanding Young Man of the Year in 1973 and as one of The Times Outstanding Leaders in 2009. He is a member of the LSU Law School Hall of Fame and the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame.
He was also the recipient of Norwela Council’s Outstanding Eagle Scout Award in 2014 and the United Way Clyde Fant Award for Community Service in 2015.
McInnis is married to Frances Carter McInnis, a retired Caddo Parish school librarian. McInnis has three children: Marshall P. McInnis, Katherine M. Webb, and Kyle C. McInnis. He also has eight grandchildren.
