BioM. Cleland Powell, III, graduated from Tulane University, B.A. in 1970 and from Emory University, M.B.A. in 1972. He is also a graduate of The Graduate School of Banking University in Wisconsin. He is a New Orleans native and a graduate of Isidore Newman High School.
Mr. Powell’s community involvement has included extensive affiliations. He served on the board of Family Services of Greater New Orleans for 18 years, serving in the positions of Treasurer, Vice President and President. He has also served on the boards of The Academy of the Sacred Heart, Trinity Episcopal School and Isidore Newman School. At Trinity and Newman he served in the capacity of Board Secretary. Mr. Powell has also served on the President’s Councils at Loyola University and Xavier University. He currently serves on the Board of Visitors of Xavier University. He was a member of the board for The Advocates for Science and Mathematics Education and served as Chairman of the Trinity Episcopal Church Parish Council, where he is a member. He also served as a member of the board of The Institute of Mental Hygiene for ten years, where he served as Treasurer, Vice President and President; a board member and Vice Chairman of the Legacy Donor Foundation; and a member of the Touro Foundation Board.
In his capacity as a Foundation Trustee, Mr. Powell is the most recent Past-Chairman of the Greater New Orleans Foundation as well as current chair of The Libby-Dufour Fund. He is currently Chairman of the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. Mr. Powell also serve served as the Vice-Chair and Chairman of the Louisiana SPCA Foundation board and is currently the President. He is a member of the board of the National World War II Museum, where he serves on the Executive Committee.
At Tulane Mr. Powell has served on The Tulane Medical Center Chancellor’s Advisory Council, Tulane Medical Center Board and The Tulane Hospital for Children Board. Currently Mr. Powell is the Past-Chair of the Tulane Health Sciences Center Board and a member of the Development Committee to the Administrators of the Tulane Educational Fund.
In addition, Mr. Powell is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Health Education Authority of Louisiana (HEAL) and is a member of the Committee of 100.
Mr. Powell is an Executive Vice President at IBERIABANK, where he is Senior Commercial Manager. Professionally, he served as Corporate Secretary and Treasurer of Avoca, Inc. and Terre aux Boeufs Land Company, Inc. for 23 years. Mr. Powell has been honored with the following awards: United Way Charles Keller Award, YLC Role Model Award and National Philanthropy Day Outstanding Volunteer.
