Mary Leach Werner

Mary Leach Werner is a Director and Vice President of The Sweet Lake Land & Oil Company and The North American Land Company. Family-founded and owned, these 125-year-old companies are based in Lake Charles, Louisiana and engage in land management, oil and gas, farming, ranching, wildlife, and real estate operations. Mary is also a Director of CKX Lands Inc., a public land management company based in Lake Charles, and has served as a Member of the Committee of 100 Louisiana, dedicated to the state’s long-term economic growth and development.


Community service has been instilled in Mary since she was a small child, and she is proud to have served on the Board of Directors for the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society (Calcasieu Area), Art Associates of Lake Charles, Education and Treatment Council/Harbor House, Louisiana Preservation Alliance, Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, Lake Charles Civic Ballet, Children's Museum of Southwest Louisiana, Imperial Calcasieu Museum and the Louisiana Center for Women in Government. She was also a founding Director of the Family Foundation of Southwest Louisiana, supporting the Family and Youth Counseling Agency in Lake Charles. Mary is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana and Second Harvest Food Bank.


Mary is also very involved with her children’s schools, volunteering in several capacities. She served as a Trustee, Board Chair and Capital and Annual Fund Campaign Chair for Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Currently, she is a Trustee of Ascension Episcopal School in Lafayette, Louisiana, where she has served as Board Vice-Chair and Chair.


Mary grew up in Leesville, Louisiana, where she graduated from Leesville High School. After attending Birmingham Southern College, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Brenau Women's College in Georgia. She has been married twenty-five years to Joel W. Werner and they are the proud parents of three children.
